What If Your True Self Is an Illusion? You Were Never Meant to Be Just One Thing

If you’ve ever felt pressure to figure yourself out, to define who you are once and for all, to choose one path, one identity, one version of yourself, this episode may speak to you.

In this opening episode of the Becoming Everything series, I challenge one of the most common ideas in personal growth: the myth of the “one true self.”

I'm trying to understand why so many women feel lost in the first place, and why that feeling might actually be a sign of growth 🌱

Where the Pressure to “Find Yourself” Comes From

We live in a world obsessed with clarity, categories, and simple stories.

From a young age, we’re asked to explain ourselves:
Who are you?
What do you do?

And for women, the pressure to be understandable, consistent, and predictable is even stronger.

In this part of the episode, we explore how:

  • changing your mind gets labeled as instability

  • evolving gets framed as confusion

  • having multiple interests gets mistaken for a lack of focus

We look at how this pressure is internalized, and how it slowly convinces us that something is wrong with us when we don’t fit into one box.

Redefining Yourself Is Not Confusion

Many of us believe that clarity means sameness: once you “find yourself,” you’re supposed to stay that way.

But what if clarity can look like change?

Here, I share how constantly redefining myself — entrepreneur and creative, soft and strong, beginner and teacher — wasn’t a sign of being lost, but a sign of becoming.

✨ You’ll hear why:

  • contradictions don’t cancel each other out

  • evolving doesn’t mean you were wrong before

  • becoming your opposite can be part of being honest with yourself

This is an invitation to stop treating change as a failure.

Living as a Multifaceted Woman

My own path has never been linear. And for a long time, I felt guilty about that.

In this section, I share parts of my story:

  • traveling and living in different countries

  • building a startup, working in consulting, starting over multiple times

  • becoming a beginner again and again

I talk about the illusion of “consistency” and why being true to yourself doesn’t mean staying the same.

📝 There’s also a small reflective exercise you can do alongside the episode... So, make sure to grab a piece of paper and a pen!

You’re Allowed to Outgrow Past Versions of Yourself

One of the hardest parts of growth isn’t change itself. it’s the guilt that comes with it. Especially when it feels like a successful version of ourselves doesn't fit the life we want anymore.

Outgrowing a version of yourself can feel like:

  • betraying your past

  • disappointing people who knew you as one thing

  • abandoning a story that once worked

In this episode, I offer a reframe, and three reminders I hope you’ll let sink in:

💛 You’re allowed to outgrow versions of yourself that brought you success.
💛 You’re allowed to evolve beyond chapters that once felt perfect.
💛 You’re allowed to become someone new without needing a “good reason.”

Growth doesn’t require justification. Honesty is already brave enough.

A Reframe to Take With You

Instead of asking “How do I find my true self?”, I offer a different question:

What if you don’t need to find yourself, but build yourself?

I share a simple reframe you can come back to anytime:

  • you get to rewrite yourself

  • you get to reinvent yourself

  • there is no final version of you

Only the next one. And the one after that.

✨ You’re not lost. You’re becoming.
